Optional and Restricted Holidays
In India, central government employees get gazetted holidays plus two restricted holidays chosen from an annual list of optional festivals published by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). State governments publish their own optional lists.
Gazetted holidaysCompulsory holidays for all central government offices. See the government holiday calendar.
Restricted holidaysEmployees choose any two from the list, which includes regional and religious festivals.
